Why is it that Gloucester can put in these new sports fields, but they can't put in a nice walking trail that people can take wheelchairs and strollers? Beaver Dam is alright, but too many roots for wheelchairs and some strollers.

Lets just put in Disney style trams for everyone at taxpayer expense so that everyone is happy.

As a parent of a disabled child and a taxpayer I'm not asking for a paved trail just a trail wide enough to accommodate the width of a wheelchair for a Disney style tram would be useless.

Yeah, really!! How much would it cost compared to the funds being put in the new park? And while you're at it, make it a little wider so bikes can use it too!!!

Hey! This could be a great idea for the land willed to the county, Brown Park, TO BE USED AS A RECREATION AREA FOR CHILDREN! I put an idea up earlier about using this nice area that is just sitting there other than the skate area. So many things could be done with little cost compared to the funds put in the new park for game fields. And it's nicely located in the Courthouse area!

Never heard of Brown Park. Exactly where is it around the Courthouse? The wife and I would be more than willing to lend a hand in getting things rolling on that project. There are so many things that you could do that would be cost effective and have a really nice place.

Woodville park would be a good place for trails through nature.

Providing access for people in strollers and wheelchairs is a priority on our park improvement list. According to state and national surveys, walking has been the number one recreational activity for many years. We are planning to add sidewalks at all of our parks to make sure people can get to fields, playgrounds, etc. It would be very nice to have an extended walking trail that is hard surfaced. At this time, the only one we have is the boardwalk at Woodville Park. We plan to extend it as funding allows. We have built formal and informal trails at all of our facilities (from walking paths around the fields to the trails at Beaverdam Park) and would very much like to have a long, hard surfaced path.

As you noted, we have been building fields. We have built fields because they were needed and volunteers, and one person in particular came forward to help. He has volunteered more than $1,000,000 worth of time and equipment to the County helping at four parks, two boat landings and three schools. Our funds are very limited and we’ve worked on projects where we had volunteer support or grant funds. We will continue to look for more funds, including trail grants, to improve our facilities. Many people have been enjoying the road and trails at Woodville Park. If you have not been, I hope you will visit. Thank you again for your comment.

I recommend putting in a quarter mile oval track with exercise station in or around the track. Similar to what is used on military installations.

That would be at the old page middle school property.

I never understood why the fields at Page were not improved instead of totally new ones further away?

Brown park is right off of route 14. The road across from the 7-11. You can see the park from the 7-11. Check it out.
